Cloudland

This oil painting, Cloudland, by Hayley Byron, is a tribute to the golden era of the Cloudland Ballroom – an iconic Brisbane venue during the 1940-70s.

The bird’s-eye view of this painting references a photograph taken in 1952 (held in the National Library of Australia collection) of a couple dancing in Cloudland, from the perspective of the mezzanine level, overlooking the ballroom from above, as it is illuminated by sunlight.

More broadly, this painting is part of a series, titled Rainsong, and corresponds with a body of work based on the water cycle.

This artwork was hand-painted in oil on canvas, and is custom framed in sustainably sourced timber. The dimensions in cm are: 43 (width) x 43 (height) x 5.5 (depth), including the frame.
